Technical Report for the Dismantling of the Hotel in Algarrobico Beach

Location: Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, Almeria, Spain

Technical report carried out in collaboration with Greenpeace in 2011, for the dismantling of the hotel built on Algarrobico beach, declared illegal because it is located in a protected environment.

This report proposes a strategy for the ecological restoration of the beach through an environmental, social, cultural and economically sustainable process. The project is based on the selective dismantling of the hotel, the detailed management of the waste generated and the ecological recovery of the beach, involving all the local agents: citizens, institutions, companies and public administration.

During the execution of the different phases of the project (Demolition + Waste Management + Environmental Recovery) the socio-economic component is developed. The creation of training and employment is promoted, among others, allowing for R&D processes, thus becoming a reference model for innovation and development. The building is understood as a “centre for environmental recovery” through the organisation of workshops on different subjects. The strategy is based on “learning by doing” and “doing by telling”.
